Former Turkish Prime Minister Fatma Betul Sayan Kaya was arrested as part of an investigation into capital market transactions, under suspicion of violating the Capital Market Law and membership in a criminal organisation, the prosecutor’s office in Istanbul announced today.

According to the prosecutor’s document, Fatma Betul Sayan Kaya allegedly has information that could influence the Ozata Denizcilik stock price, Anadolu reported.

Investigators said the former minister bought the shares of that company in April 2026 and sold them on September 16th, a day before the decision on liquidating funds.

The prosecution suspects that Kay was aware of the imminent liquidation, as well as that she transferred the shares to the company, Terra Yatimir Mencul Degerler, who paid their value that day instead of paying money within the usual two-day working period.

Former head of the Capital Markets Board, Ibrahim Omer Genul and Ilyas Kaya, were released under judicial supervision measures, which include regular presentations to authorities and a travel ban.
