US President Donald Trump said he will soon decide whether to continue the fight against Iran, which the United States and Israel launched in February aimed at preventing Tehran from developing nuclear weapons.
Trump told reporters at the White House that he was considering whether he would continue the attacks to ensure Iran’s nuclear programme stops forever. At the same time, he expressed his desire to avoid Iran’s further destruction, but did not rule out the possibility of new attacks.
After a meeting with national security advisers, Trump said the United States had achieved everything it wanted to achieve in Iran and that they would now decide on further steps.
American portal Axios reported, citing an American government official, that the US Central Command ( CENTCOM) is accelerating preparations for possible continued large-scale military operations in Iran, but that it has not yet received new orders from Washington.
Mediators have been in Tehran several times recently for talks, and Trump himself spoke of possible progress in negotiations to end the conflict.
