According to preliminary investigations, a group of students allegedly threw a flare into the gym dressing room, where there were 12 fifth graders at the moment.

The blast caused the pain of 10 children. Five of them, aged 10 and 11, were transported to hospitals near the area for further medical examinations, having shown headaches and concerns in their ears.

Parents and legal caretakers were notified of the incident, while some of them immediately appeared in school environments.

Police disclosed that all students allegedly involved in the event were identified at the scene. However, authorities have not made public the age of persons who allegedly threw out the pyrotechnic vehicle as well as the name of the school.

The case is past the Department of Crime Investigation 12, which is under way to fully whitewash the circumstances of the incident.

The event at Oberhausen comes only four days after another similar incident at a school in the German town of Neuwied.

Again, a firecracker exploded in the boys ‘ bathroom during the break between classes. According to local media reports, eight students suffered slight hearing injuries as a result of the intense noise of the explosion.

Police launched investigations to determine how the event happened and who was responsible for the explosion. At that time, however, it was not known whether any of the students had needed medical treatment.

The two incidents recorded within a few days have turned to the danger posed by pyrotechnics in school environments, especially for child safety.
