At the discussion table on the topic of mental health, organised by the Prime Minister’s Office in collaboration with U NICEF, Kurti has stressed that the welfare and mental health of children and young people should be an integral part of state policies.

The report gave us an important mirror of the situation but also a series of recommendations for the road forward. After launching, by W NICEF has asked that we meet again to reflect on the findings, to discuss essentially the recommendations and, above all, to determine the steps we should take as a state to advance the mental health agenda in Kosovo, Kurti has declared.

He has stressed that the meeting should serve as a starting point for concrete action.

Therefore, today’s meeting should lead us from evidence to action. We already have a clearer document to understand challenges and needs. Our responsibility now is to determine where to focus our efforts, which measures require priority action, and how we can work together to build a more stable and accessible system for support of mental health, he said.

Mental health is not and cannot be the sole responsibility of a sector. It is related to health, the environment in which our children learn, to families where they grow, to the social and health services that support them, to the security, to the communities in which they live, and to the opportunities we create for them, Kurti noted.

The head of government has also cited some of the measures taken during his mandate to support children and families.

As Government, we have put children and young people in the center of our policies. During our government mandate, we have taken important steps to support children and families in our country. We have started with offering additions to children and supporting lechoma mothers, gradually increasing this level of support over the years, Kurti has declared.

He has added that the ambition of institutions is to create a system that invests in early prevention and identification.

Our ambition is clear to build a system that doesn’t react to crisis, but invests in prevention, identification and early support. A system where children, young people, and their families know where to turn and where they can get the support at the right time, he has said.

Kurti has announced that after the meeting, it is expected to initiate procedures for the creation of an interinstitutional working group, with the aim of drafting strategic national documents for mental health.

I expect that after this meeting, my team will start procedures to create an interinstitutional working group, which will help us determine a coordinated and comprehensive approach to address mental health, with the ultimate aim of drafting national strategic documents in this field, Kurti has concluded.
