Court: The Trump administration held secret talks to deport Iranians even though war continued

The Trump administration held secret talks with Iran on the deportation of Iranians even though the war there continued, they show Court documents provided by the Associated Press.

The tribunal’s documents revealed Thursday show that the republican administration, since mid-October, said there were plans to deport Iranians through an unidentified third country, though it was not clear when it intended to do so.

The judge in the case ordered the government to issue a 24-hour notice of any finalised plan to deport Iranians to Iran or elsewhere and a written five days before any such deportation is carried out.

We’re at war with a country where the president of the United States said, just two or three days ago, if not yesterday, it’s essentially without law… A country that is an enemy of the United States, according to the current president. One country that, according to our president, killed tens of thousands of protesters, said the judge, Anna Reyes, according to the October 15th transcript that has now been discovered.

And what you’re telling me is that the United States of America will send individuals back to that region, facing what you, me and whoever ever saw this would know it was, at least, a serious threat to certain death.

Yes, Your Honor, Justice Department lawyer Dimitar Georgiev-Remmel said.

Georgiev-Remmel told the court that there was no specific date set to carry out any departure. A legal group representing Iranians held by the Migration and Customs Office ( ICE ) said a dozen Iranian detainees were reported last week that they would be deported to Iran.

The legal group, the Iranian-American Legal Protection Fund, filed the indictment in which the transcript was published. The development came from an ongoing indictment claiming administration immigration agencies Trump have shared confidential information about Iranian asylum seekers with the Iranian government, violating national immigration regulations and jeopardising countless Iranians, the court files argue.

The Iranian-American Legal Protection Fund said on Thursday that at least 12 Iranians have been contacted by the Iranian Department of Interests, an Iranian representative office at the Pakistani Embassy in Washington dealing with consular issues, during the past week and have been announced of an upcoming flight of deportation to Iran via Pakistan. The group did not say when the expulsion would occur.

One of the detainees attempted suicide after learning that he could return to Iran, according to Yasmine Chubin, executive director of the organisation. He was one of two people who later moved beyond state boundaries to a detention centre in Texas, where the detainees often move immediately before an escape.

The legal group said none of the detainees contacted have received any written information from immigration authorities.
