Israel’s president said on Sunday he will announce which MP will entrust the mandate for forming the new government, following consultations with political parties following last month’s elections.

In a video message Thursday, reported by Israeli media Ynet, Isaac Herzeg said parties representing 67 members of the 120-seat Knesse recommended the party leader Yashar, Gadi Eisencot, while parties possessing 46 countries backed current Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, leader of the Likud party.

The results of the consultations may seem clear, said Herzeg, but added that the possibility of forming a government remains uncertain due to mutual objections between and within political blocs.

He said he will hold further individual talks with party leaders to assess their chances of forming a coalition.

Herzeg stressed that he will make every effort to facilitate the formation of a stable government.

Israel held parliamentary elections on October 27th, where neither the Netanyah bloc nor the opposition secured the absolute majority.

Under Israeli law, the president charges an MP with forming the government after consultations with parliamentary groups, taking into account his ability to ensure majority support in Knesset. / AA/
