Historic victory for minorities in US Muslim elections

Tuesday’s mid-term elections in the United States brought a series of historic results, with several candidates from minority communities winning significant state and federal positions.

These victories were marked on a night when the Democrats achieved significant results, while voters expressed dissatisfaction with President Donald Trump’s second term, broadcasting Telegrafi.

Among the winners were the first colored governor, the first homosexual senator to openly declare his sexual orientation, and the first woman governor of the autochthonian American peoples.

Bill Schiebler, director of strategy in the non-profit organisation, a network promoting civic participation and equality, told the AFP news agency that the results represented a strong opposition to hatred and division.

We are seeing an electorate that you see more and more in its leaders and in the people who come from the communities they already represent, said Riebler, adding that this is part of the functioning of a multiethnic democracy and not just an unusual coincidence.

In Georgia’s southern state, Democrat Keisha Lance Bottoms won the mayoral race, becoming the first colored woman chosen at the head of an American state. The former mayor of Atlanta defeated billionaire and health care sector director Rick Jackson. Her victory brings the Democrats back to the governorship in Georgia after more than two decades of republican control.

Meanwhile, Democrat Chris Pappas won the New Hampshire race, becoming the first homosexual man to serve in the American Senate. He’s part of the House of Representatives since 2019.

No one should be discriminated against because of who or who he loves, Papapas had declared himself on his official page.

Another historic victory was marked in New Mexico, where Democrat Deb Haaland was elected the first woman governor of the American autochthonics. She defeated Republican Gregg Hull.

Haaland, a member of the Laguna Pueblo tribe, had previously served as interior secretary in the administration of former President Joe Biden. In this capacity, she had become the first person of origin by American autochthon peoples to run a department in the US presidential cabinet.

In Michigan, left-wing Democrat Abdul El-Weed held a close and very public-minded race, aiming to become the first Muslim elected in the American Senate.

The former health sector administrator drew large crowds during the campaign throughout the state, promising health care would be done for free.

The election results brought yet more state-level achievements. In Texas, Gina Hinnom became the first Latin governor after her victory.

Meanwhile, if the current leader of the democratic minority in the House of Representatives, Hakeem Jeffries, is elected to the post of president of this room, as expected, he will become the first colored person to hold the task in the history of the United States.

This was a historic election process in which people decided to believe in themselves and in the hope of the future of this country, opposing efforts to silence them, Shiebler concluded. /Telegraphy/
