The Democrats are expected to regain control of the House of Representatives, giving way to the possibility that the leader of the Democrats in the Chamber, Hakeem JeffriesBe the first colored chairman of this institution.
The results represent a major blow to the Republicans, who were aiming to preserve most in the House of Representatives through a revision process of the election district map in the middle of the decade.

The democratic candidates managed to keep some of the governors where the race was narrow, including those in Maine and Wisconsin, and won in free positions in Michigan. The party also noted significant progress in states that have traditionally voted for republics, winning mayoral races in Texas, Georgia, Ohio and Iowa. In the 2024 presidential election, President Donald Trump had won these four states by a considerable margin.
Some of these contests also marked historic moments, for the Democrats won governorial positions:
Texas: Gina Hinojosa is expected to become Texas’s first Spanish governor after defeating Republican Governor Greg Abbott, who remained in office for nearly 12 years. Hinojosa, 52, will also be the first democrat to be elected mayor of Texas since 1990.
Georgia: Keisha Lance Bottoms defeated Republican Rick Jackson, becoming the first woman of choice governorship in the history of the United States. She is also the first democrat to run Georgia since 2002.
Ohio: Amy Acton is expected to become the first democrat to win the governor’s post in Ohio since 2006, as well as the first woman elected to the post. It defeated Republican Vivek Ramaswamy, in a race that drew great attention to the national level, especially because of a contracting campaign advertising.
Iowa: Democrat Rob Sand defeated his Republican opponent, ending a decade of republican control in this state.
