According to RBC-Ukrainian media reports referring to CNN Turkey, Ukraine’s leader estimates that developing a direct dialogue on the highest state levels is necessary, because so far contact between delegations has failed to end the conflict.

The Importance of Presidential Meeting

According to Zelensky, direct talks between heads of state may serve to resolve issues that are pending at the level of technical groups.

Direct negotiations between presidents could help find solutions to issues that remain unresolved at the level of delegations and technical groups. That’s why I want to meet him as decision-makers, Zelensky noted.

Key themes and Kiev red lines

Among the key issues expected to be raised at a possible meeting include reaching a ceasefire along the front line, establishing a monitoring mechanism for implementation of agreements, as well as determining security guarantees and plans for the country’s reconstruction.

However, the Ukrainian leader has reconfirmed his firm stand on state borders. Zelensky reiterated that he would not accept Moscow’s demands to launch the Donbas region or to recognise the Crimea as Russian territory, clarifying that such concessions would constitute direct violations of the Ukrainian Constitution.
