The country’s prime minister, Albin Kurti, has received a letter of congratulations from UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham.
As the prime minister’s office suggests in his letter, Burnham has emphasised the long-standing and close partnership between Kosovo and the United Kingdom, recalling that his country was among the first states to recognise Kosovo’s independence, Dukajni reports.

It has reaffirmed United Kingdom support for Kosovo’s development as a sovereign, independent and multiethnic state, as well as for co-operation in promoting stability and security in Europe.
We are proud to have been among the first countries to recognise Kosovo’s independence. We remain steadfast in promoting Kosovo’s continued development as a sovereign, independent and multiethnic state, as well as highly esteeming our continued co-operation in promoting stability and security in Europe, Burnham wrote.
Furthermore, the British prime minister has stressed the importance of international justice, accountability and rule of law in achieving sustainable reconciliation, reaffirming his country’s commitment to regional stability.
Burnham has also expressed willingness to expand co-operation with Kosovo in areas of common interest, including strengthening economies and fighting serious organised crime.
I am happy to work with you to address some of Europe’s biggest challenges, as well as to enhance our excellent co-operation and partnership with mutual benefits in areas of mutual interest, from strengthening our economies to combating serious organised crime, it has ended.
