US President Donald Trump has expressed optimism about the possibility of reaching a peace agreement between Russia and Ukraine, claiming that the parties may be close to a resolution of the conflict.
In an interview with conservative commentator Benny Johnson, published on Saturday, Trump said there is a truly good reason for ending the war.
I think we are getting very close to reaching an agreement, Trump said, referring to the deep animosity between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian Volodyr Zelensky.
Asked whether an agreement can be reached during the G20 summit, which is expected to be held in December at its Trump National Doral resort in Florida, the American president did not rule out this possibility.
I think there’s a lot of chance we can work this out. We’re also working on a lot of agreements, he said.
During the interview, Trump also spoke of Iran, repeating his administration’s stance on equipping this country with nuclear weapons.
He claimed Iran’s military capacities have weakened significantly, adding that the United States is determined to complete the issue.
However, Trump’s statements are not accompanied by any confirmed agreement between Moscow and Kiev, while it remains to be seen whether negotiations will produce concrete results.
