The UBT has officially opened today the 15th edition of the International Scientific Conference, a major academic event held in UBT Science, Innovative and Technological Park. This interdisciplinary platform put together over 1,000 researchers, scientists, professionals and experts from more than 30 countries in the world, with the aim of advancing scientific research, exchange of knowledge and fostering international co-operation. This year’s edition has special festive significance, as it corresponds to the 25th anniversary of the UBT founding.

At the opening of this conference, President and Rector of UBT’s, Prof. Dr. Edmond Hajrizi, welcoming participants has highlighted the key role of interdisciplinary research in resolving global challenges.
The most important challenges of our time do not belong to a single scientific discipline. Climate change cannot be addressed solely by environmental science. The transformation of artificial intelligence cannot be understood only through computer science. The future of health care requires medicine, engineering, biotechnology, digital technology, ethical and man – centered innovation. Sustainable cities require architecture, urban planning, energy systems, mobility, digital infrastructure and community participation. So our conference is more than a review of scientific presentations: it is an international platform linking knowledge, discipline, people and institutions in search of better solutions to real world problems, Rector Hajriz said before the audience.
While stopping on the institution’s quarter-year journey, Rector Hajrizi highlighted UBT’s transformation into a modern educational and scientific ecosystem, as well as the intention to raise the quality of scientific research to high international levels.
) Today the UBT has developed into a vast ecosystem of academic, scientific, technological and entrepreneurial, which includes about 300 labs, 150 study fields and co-operation with more than 500 universities and partner institutions internationally. However, a university’s largest investment is not in buildings or technology, but in people, today the UBT unites over 400 full-time staff members with doctoral titles. Our goal is not simply to increase the number of publications but to strengthen scientific quality, international coauthority, and solutions that respond to society’s needs. From scientific knowledge to prototypes, from prototypes to innovation, and from innovation to measurable social impact: this is the way we want to empower us, the Rector said. UBT’s.
Meanwhile, during today the conference program will extend into a wide range of disciplines through dozens of parallel scientific sessions. Works will include fields of medicine, nursing, pharmacy, dentistry and sports medicine, as well as the computer-based technology and engineering sector, artificial intelligence, meccronicals, robotics and information safety. Also, particular space will be dedicated to architecture, spatial planning, art and design, while topics from management, economy, justice, political sciences, media, psychology, education, and environmental sciences will be addressed in social and economic sciences.
Special focus on the works will be platform U. BT Smart City, which is serving as a living laboratory for interdisciplinary experimentation and prototype testing of new technologies. Also presented is the development of specialised expertise and Institutes, such as the Institute of Sports Medicine and Al Business Hub. Regarding the use of artificial intelligence, Rector Hajriz stated that the tools of Allah must serve to support, not to replace scientific judgment and methodological rigorousity.
The event comes at an important moment where the UBT reconfirms its leadership position as the first institution in Kosovo in the scientific research component in the international rankings SCImago Institutions Rankings 2026, aiming to further increase scientific impact and participation in European programmes like COST Action’s Horizon Europe. The conference will continue works during the day with the presentation of scientific symposiums, constructive debates and the creation of new bridges of academic co-operation between young scholars and international scientists.
