It is divided by life at the age of 101 academic Luan Omari, one of the most prominent figures of Albanian jurisdiction.

The news was disclosed by the Albanian Academy of Sciences, which expressed condolences for the loss of one of its founding personalities.

In the announcement made on social networks, the Academy of Sciences describes his loss as a major blow to Albanian science and culture, praising the extraordinary contribution he made for decades in the field of scientific research, higher education and law development in Albania.

Luan Omari was the founding member of the Albanian Academy of Sciences, as well as maintaining the duties of the scientific secretary and deputy chairman of the institution.

During his academic and professional life, he played an important role in shaping Albanian judicial thought and strengthening democratic and rule of law institutions.

Born on June 10th 1925 in Tirana, to a family of prominent cultural and educational traditions, Omar conducted his early education in Bari, Italy, while higher law studies followed him to Belgrade and Sofia, where he graduated from law science.

His career was closely linked to Albanian higher education. He served as a public law dot at the High Law Institute, dean of the Law Faculty at the University of Tirana for nearly two decades, and professor of State and Law Theory, as well as of Public Law.

Beyond academic activity in the country, Professor Omar represented Albania at the Venice Commission at the Council of Europe, contributing to debates on democracy and constitutional right at the European level.

He is the author of dozens of studies, publications and monographs dedicated to the history of Albanian law, public law, constitutional law and Albanian judicial system. Also, it was an active part of constitutional processes after the years of the 1990s and contributed to debates on the drafting of Albania’s Constitution and fundamental state legislation.

For his extraordinary contribution, the President of the Republic was decorated in 2020 with the top title of Gen Kastriot Skenderbeu, while in 2016 the Academy of Sciences honored him with the Academy of Career Award.

The Academy of Sciences has expressed the most sincere condolences to family, friends, colleagues and the entire scientific community for the loss of academicist Luan Omari.

Meanwhile, honours and prayers in his memory will take place on October 30th 2026 at the Albanian Academy of Sciences.

At 10:00 a.m., the Solemne Academy will be held in the Hall of Alex Budaı, while the clocks will take place from 11:00 to 1,300. Then, at 1: 00 a.m., the chairman of the Academy of Sciences, Skender Ginushi, will keep his farewell word for the Lian Omar academics.

With its separation from life, Albania loses one of the finest minds of jurisdiction and a personality that left a lasting impression on the history of Albanian education, science and institutions.
