Kosovo Parliament Speaker Albulen Haxhiu has called on MPs not to consume tobacco in the institution’s closed environments, warning that in the event of continuing violations, it will seek the Inspectorate’s intervention and the pronunciation of fines.

During an address to the Assembly, Haxhiu has expressed concern about smoking within the institution’s spaces, saying the smell is reaching its office and is making it difficult for her.

I would like to address another concern over smoking in the Republic of Kosovo Assembly. I can’t even function as head of the Parliament, that this is where I’m having the smell of tobacco, Haxhi has declared, follows Telegrafi.

It has urged MPs to respect the relevant law, which prohibits smoking in closed environments.

I’m asking the MPs to respect the law this nation has passed. In the closed premises of the Parliament not to smoke, she stressed.

Haxhiu has warned that, if MPs continue to violate the law, it will require that the Inspectorate intervene in the Parliament’s environments to identify and fine persons who do not respect the ban.

Otherwise, we will immediately be forced to ask the Inspectorate to come to the premises of the Parliament to receive fines from MPs who violate the law in the Parliament’s environments, she said.

The Speaker of the Parliament has named this as the last call to MPs who consume tobacco in closed spaces, leaving open the possibility of punitive measures in the event of violations of the law.

It has demanded that MPs set an example in respecting laws adopted by the Kosovo Assembly itself. /Telegraphy/
