The AFA welcomes Albanian representatives for securing two seats in Serbia’s Assembly.

Organizations for Americas ( The AFA has praised the Albanian political representatives from Presevo Valley for the expected security of two seats in Serbia’s Parliament, naming it an important achievement for the political representation of Albanians in Presevo, Bujanoc and Medvedja.

According to the AFA, this development opens up opportunities for empowering the voice of the Albanian community in Serbia’s institutions and for advancing past requirements for equal rights, political representation, economic development, and completion of discrimination practices.

Commenting on general election developments in Serbia, the organisation has estimated that the transition from continued street protests towards changes through elections testifies to the power of civic participation and collective action. However, it has stressed that changing political leadership does not necessarily mean changing political direction.

The AFA has estimated that Serbia is likely to flee from nationalist policies and regional antagonism, linked to the period of Slobodan Milosevic and continued under Aleksandar Vuciqi’s leadership. However, disturbing rhetoric after the elections, according to the organisation, raises questions whether this political transition will bring a real break from the past.

True democratic progress, according to the AFA, should be measured not only through election results, but also through concrete commitments to minority rights, respect for Kosovo’s sovereignty and independence, accountability and constructive relations with neighbouring countries.

The organisation has voiced hope that this moment will mark the beginning of a new chapter in which Serbia will embrace democratic accountability, address the Albanian community’s past complaints and become a responsible and constructive partner in the Western Balkans.

Political change creates an opportunity. Respecting rights, reconciliation and responsible leadership will determine whether this opportunity will bring sustainable progress, AFA’s response said.
