Five people have been arrested as part of a joint operation by the Special Prosecution of the Republic of Kosovo and the Kosovo Police, in the case known as “Reçaku II”, which is related to war crimes investigations.
At the press conference held after the operation, special prosecutor Ilir Morina announced that the arrests were carried out based on a court order.
“We have executed the court order, whereby we have arrested five people suspected of involvement in the Recak massacre,” Morina declared.
Meanwhile, the director of the Directorate for the Investigation of War Crimes in the Kosovo Police, Bashkim Spahiu, said that the arrested are Serbs, citizens of Kosovo, while another suspect has not been arrested.
Spahiu announced that evidence and materials related to suspicions of war crimes were obtained during the operation. “During this operation, investigators have managed to find a wealth of evidence that we consider relevant to the case,” he said. Prosecutor Morina stressed that the arrested persons are suspected of having been part of units led by Goran Radosavljevic during the war in Kosovo.
“Those arrested today are members of those units,” Morina declared, adding that their involvement in the events being investigated is important.
He also underlined that justice can only be served when there is sufficient evidence, adding that until 2020 there had been no serious investigations into the Recak massacre.
Regarding the identification of the suspects, Morina announced that investigators have used various materials, including television recordings.
“In the identification procedure, among others, two recordings were used, one published by RTK and the other by Radio Television of Serbia,” he said.
They have announced that the investigations into the “Reçaku II” case will continue in the coming period.
