U.S. President Donald Trump has declared that he has reached an agreement with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for cutting off financial aid of $4 billion a year to Israel at the end of 2026.
In an interview with Fox News’ Fox & Friends, Trump said Israel no longer needs this financial support from the United States.

As for Israel’s payments, Bebe Netanyah and I have reached an agreement we give to Israel four billion dollars a year, and several months ago we have agreed to stop this. We have already agreed that by the end of this year, we will stop paying Israel. However, we will help Israel if necessary, Trump declared.
Still, it is not clear what financial assistance the American president has referred to and how its suspension will be realised at the end of this year.
This is because the current memorandum of understanding between the two countries, which envisions $3.8 billion in US military assistance to Israel each year, is in force until 2028. Meanwhile, talks on how American support for Israel will continue after this date are under way.
The White House and the Israeli prime minister’s office did not respond to Reuters’s demands for comment on Trump’s statement.
Meanwhile, public support for Israel has declined since the beginning of the war in Gaza in 2023, especially among the Democrats.
A Quinnipiac University survey conducted in June showed that 48 percent of American voters and 66 percent of Democrats consider the U.S. to be highly supportive of Israel. These figures represent notable increases compared to 2017, when 16 and 20 percent of respondents respectively.
