Kosovo’s chief negotiator with the European Union, Jeton Zulfaj, has called for Germany’s support for Kosovo’s advancement in the European integration process, obtaining candidate country status and opening EU membership negotiations, respectively.
During a meeting in Berlin with State Minister for Europe at Germany’s Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs Gunther Krichbaum, Zulfaj has raised the issue of Kosovo’s position in the process of expanding the European Union and has called for the country’s progress to be reflected with concrete steps towards membership.

According to Zulfaj, Kosovo has noted the greatest democratic and economic progress in the Western Balkans over the past decade, but this, according to him, has not yet been reflected in its treatment in the European integration process.
He has stressed that nearly four years after submitting the application for membership, Kosovo continues to be the only Western Balkan country that has not received candidate status.
The chief negotiator has estimated that the EU’s lack of a decision on candidate status does not match the promises given at the Thessaloniki Summit and the European Union’s continuing statements for Kosovo’s European perspective.
In this direction, Zulfaj has demanded that Germany, as one of the key European Union countries, engage to push ahead of its decision on Kosovo’s candidate status.
At the end of the meeting, he has thanked German minister for his open conversation and discussion about Kosovo’s European path.. /Telegraphy/
