United States President Donald Trump has announced on Tuesday that he has reached an agreement with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for cutting off financing $4 billion a year for Israel.
Speaking on Fox News’ show Fox and Friends, Trump said Israel no longer needs this assistance, while claiming that some left-wing Democrats and politicians are using American financial support as an argument to criticise the republics.

As for Israel’s payment, Bebe Netanyah and I have made an agreement that we give Israel $4 billion a year, and we agreed months ago to stop it. We have already agreed that by the end of this year we will no longer pay Israel. But we’ll help him if he needs to, Trump stressed.
Netanyah’s office has not provided an immediate comment regarding the American president’s statements.
However, it is still not clear which concrete funding it is about. The memorandum of understanding, through which US military assistance for Israel is provided $3.8 billion, is expected to expire in 2028, while negotiations on how Washington’s support will continue after that date are under way.
They can buy whatever they want. Even Europe can buy. We produce the best weapons in the world, Trump added on Tuesday.
In an interview given in May for CBS television, Netanyah had said that he hoped that within a decade he would distance Israel from dependence on American military support.
Meanwhile, in a June letter to a U.S. Congressman, he had written that the time had come for Israel to switch from aid recipients to partner.
American public support for Israel has declined since the beginning of the Gaza War in 2023, especially among the Democrats.
A survey by Quinnipiac University, conducted in June, showed that 48 percent of voters and 66 percent of Democrats think that the United States is highly supportive of Israel. These figures represent significant increases compared to 2017, when this question was asked for the first time and the corresponding percentages were 16 and 20 percent.
Israel’s support among democratic voters has dropped sharply. Critics of Israel are winning preliminary elections within the Democratic Party, while even moderate lawmakers are increasingly challenging decades of American support for this state.
Trump has claimed financial support for Israel is being used by political opponents as an argument to attack the republics.
The left hand uses the $4 billion fee, everyone knows, as a sign of injustice, and we can’t afford that. We give them 4 billion dollars, we’re still giving it to them, but that’s what stops at the end of the year. Why? Because they don’t need to, Trump has declared further.
