Sali: gradual integration must bring tangible benefits to citizens even before EU membership

Under the working visit to Berlin, the First Deputy Chairman of the Government and Minister for European Affairs, Bekim Sali, held a meeting with German Bundestag deputy Peter Beyer, where the North Macedonia European perspective was discussed, the latest developments in the European Union’s enlargement policy, and the possibilities for deepening co-operation between the two countries were discussed.

At the heart of the talks was gradual integration into the common European market, as a mechanism that enables tangible benefits for citizens and businesses in parallel with meeting reforms and advancing towards full membership.

Sali stressed the importance of the European Commission’s new approach to preparing a broader European Union, underlining the need for the enlargement process to be more dynamic, predictable and merit-based.

European integration should not start only on membership day. Our citizens and businesses should feel the benefits of approaching the European Union right now. gradual integration is the opportunity to turn the European perspective into concrete results, while we continue with reforms needed for full membership, Sali stressed. /Telegraphy/
