The Court of Appeals has overturned Judge Vesel Ismajli’s decision, which had decided that Burim Krasniqi, suspected in the case of naught255, would be protected in freedom on bail for 20 thousand euros.
Insider sources have indicated that following Apel’s decision, Krasniqi has been sent to custody.
Krasniqi had been arrested on October 28, 2026, after nearly two years on the run. On October 29th, he was presented to Pristina Foundation Court Special Department Judge Vesel Ismajli.
The special prosecutor of the Republic of Kosovo had demanded the appointment of the detention measure against him, under suspicion of participation or organisation of the organised criminal group and forging documents.
However, Judge Ishmael had rejected the Special Prosecutor’s request and had decided that Krasniqi be released on bail of 20 thousand euros.
The decision was made days before Judge Ishmael’s retirement. As Insander had reported earlier, he had announced that he would retire on November 10, 2026.
Appeal Changes Decision
After the first – degree decision, the Special Prosecutor had filed urgent complaints at the Court of Appeals.
According to Apeli’s decision, a three-judge college consisting of Valon Kurtaj, Mentor Bajraktari and Avdi Mehmeti, has overturned Judge Ishmael’s decision and has appointed the measure of detention of Krasniqi.
The prosecution had demanded that the detention be scheduled for 30 days.
Insider’s sources suggest that the risk of fleeing the suspect, the possibility of preventing criminal procedure and other random circumstances has been taken into account.
Amid the circumstances assessed by Appeals is the fact that Krasniqi is suspected of involvement in a network dealing with the production and counterfeiting of a large quantity of official documents.
He was on the run for nearly two years
As Insander had earlier reported, Burim Krasniqi had been on the run for nearly two years before being arrested by Kosovo police.
He is considered by the prosecution as one of the key suspects in the case of éborator é25, which is linked to the counterfeiting of official documents and travel documents.
In the first Isinger report, it had become known that the Special Prosecutor had sought Krasniqi’s detention to ensure his presence in the procedure, but Judge Ishmael had released him on bail.
His defence had rejected the request for detention, claiming there was no concrete evidence linking Krasniqi to alleged criminal activity.
Lawyer Alban Arifi had declared that the equipment found during the raid on a house was not linked to his client. According to the defence, those devices were new and were purchased for a photocopy activity.
The defence had also claimed that Krasniqi did not pose an escape risk, as he was presented to the police along with the lawyer and had handed in the two passports he owned — the Kosovo and Sweden.
Suspicion of forged documents of over 50 states
According to special Prosecution allegations, Burim Krasniqi, along with other persons, has participated in an organised criminal group dealing with the counterfeiting of passports, ID cards, residence permits and patents.
The documents were allegedly produced for more than 50 countries around the world.
The prosecution suspects some of the documents have been incomplete, while others have been fulfilled with the identities of certain persons.
The case, “Laborator ‘%25,” is linked to a suspected network for producing and distributing forged documents. Other individuals were investigated and arrested under this case.
Burim Krasniqi will now remain in custody, following the Court of Appeals ruling that overturned his bail decision.
