A new wave of Russian attacks with fears and ballistic missiles has hit Ukraine overnight, causing major damage to energy infrastructure, power cuts, and problems in water and heating supplies.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced that 12 regions of the country were targeted, while the capital, Kiev, was hit the hardest. According to him, over 170 fears and more than 30 ballistic missiles were used in the attacks, while nine people were injured, including a child.

In a response to the Telegram, Zelensky accused Moscow of preparing for future talks by attacking Ukraine’s critical infrastructure. Ukrainian and Russian delegations are expected to participate in trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi next week.

The situation in Kiev remains difficult, as attacks damaged residential buildings, the North Bridge and a kindergarten. In addition to the capital, damage to electrical substations has also been reported in Winnitsia, Zytomour, Rivne, Kharkiv, and Dnepro regions.

Zelensky said substations linking Rivnes and Hmelnitski nuclear power plants with the capital and the central part of the country have been hit in the Kiev region.

Meanwhile, Kiev chairman Vitaly Klitschko announced that the city’s water supply has returned to normal function, while about 60 percent of the residential buildings have been reconnected to the heating system. Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal confirmed power cuts in five regions, without announcing the number of affected families.

Recent attacks come at a time when temperatures in Ukraine are dropping, and in some parts of the country have started the first snowfall for the winter.

The developments also follow Thursday’s meeting at the White House, where US First Lady Melanie Trump hosted Russian and Ukrainian delegations. She called for a more stable ceasefire, following a fighting break in the southern region of Kherson.

Meanwhile, during a six – day ceasefire, hundreds of residents of the occupied Ukrainian town of Olesky managed to evacuate, as they were facing constant hunger and bombing. Both sides attributed it to the American president, Donald Trump, brokering this agreement.

At the beginning of this week, slippery bomb attacks on a stand-by centre near Zaporyza caused dozens of casualties. The death toll has reached 55, while search-saving teams are continuing to work in ruins.

Following the recent attacks, Zelensky said Ukraine expects greater support from the United States, seeking unity in security issues, condemning Russian aggression and increasing sanctions on Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian president’s spokesman refused to comment on reports that Zelensky could be invited to the United Kingdom for a state visit next year.
