American military forces have hit a merchant ship in Oman Bay after its crew allegedly ignored repeated warnings and attempted to breach Iran’s naval blockade.
Central Command of the United States ( CENTCOM announced on Saturday that an American military plane had used precise ammunition to hit the back of the commercial ship, M/V Hudaão, putting it out of operation.
According to CENTCOM, prior to the attack, the crew was instructed to leave the area that was to be hit.
American authorities said the ship had previously visited an Iranian port and was trying to escape the waters of the region, despite restrictions imposed.
147 stray ships and five neutralised
According to the U.S. Army, since July, a total of 147 commercial ships have been diverted after they respected the blockade’s orders, while five other ships have been neutralised because of their rejection of instructions.
CENTCOM also claims to have destroyed ten Iranian oil transport tankers, which, according to her, were part of a financial network linked to Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard.
Meanwhile, the British Agency of Marine Trade Operations ( U ndo KMTO reported an incident between a cargo ship and military forces, about 18 nautical miles east of Khor Fakkan, near the United Arab Emirates.
The National Emirates Guard announced that 22 people were rescued from a cargo ship in Oman Bay.
Iran warns of marine mines in Hormuz Strait
In parallel with developments in Oman Bay, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard claimed two oil tankers were on fire after hitting marine mines in the vicinity of the Hormuz Strait.
According to Iranian authorities, ships had used unauthorized routes and turned off navigation systems.
Tehran warned that ships co-operating with the American Army and breach restrictions imposed by Iran risk hitting marine mines.
These developments come in a period of increased tensions between Washington and Tehran.
US President Donald Trump confirmed that US forces had hit an Iranian air defence system, while from Iran reported explosions in several areas, including the island of Smile, Siric, Jask and Bandar Abbas.
The parties’ claims of maritime incidents and the consequences of the attacks have not been independently verified.
