Massive protests against the cost of living and public spending cuts in Germany have ended with clashes between protesters and police, as well as the looting of stores in central Frankfurt.
In addition to Frankfurt, violent incidents have been reported in Berlin, Kaln, and Hamburg. Police have used water cannons to disperse protesters, who allegedly attacked emergency teams with fireworks, stones and bottles.

Thousands of young people joined earlier the protests organised by the campaign group Guen Zhageltı, which in Albanian implies Gennerata Z taking things into his own hands.
Protesters rejected insufficient school financing, high cost of living, public spending cuts and mandatory military service.
According to authorities, up to 18 thousand protesters participated in Frankfurt, Munich and Berlin, about half the number the organisers had predicted.
The organising group’s spokeswoman, Lena Friedrich, said the goal of the protests was the struggle for peace and freedom, not for war and obligation. It requested more support for health and educational systems, as well as a more fair distribution of the economic burden.
However, the situation was tense during the evening hours. Police in Frankfurt reported on the collapse of several store windows and Molotova cocktails in the direction of emergency services. Also, windows were broken from an arms store, while authorities reportedly had seized two weapons following the arrest of a suspect.
Inland Interior Minister Hesen, Roman Poseck, stated that about 100 left-wing extremists had infiltrated the Frankfurt protest, calling the demonstration’s outcome shameful.
Protests in Germany follow similar demonstrations led by young people in France, where more than 320 thousand attended on Saturday.
