The strike of technical workers in Pristina schools is towards completion, as the Pristina municipality and the union have reached agreement regarding the payments that should be made to these workers within the framework of the minimum wage implementation.
As a result of the deal, schools are expected to resume regular functioning over the next week, Pristina Education Director Arian Elshani has announced.

Elshani, has indicated that the agreement reached between the municipality’s deputy mayor and union, envisions payments related to minimum wage for technical workers.
Yes, the deal has been reached, in this case between the deputy mayor of the municipality Mr. The shower and union and we basically have an agreement signed even with my contract administration for payments to be made under the minimum wage for technical workers, he said.
However, Elshani has criticised the school strike decision, saying that opposition by technical workers has had to be directed at economic operators with whom they have contractual relations.
But, I’ve said from the beginning, the strike of technical workers has not had the place in schools, the strike has taken place in businesses, in economic operators who are contracted by the Pristina Community. And in this case, students, educators, parents and our schools have been the victim of this battle that has been fought, because I consider that the law with the entry into force of all government decisions on the minimum wage issue, these are the obligations of each economic operator, the commitment of every business that works in the Republic of Kosovo and every public institution. Therefore, contractual workers have with the economic operator, not the Pristina municipality. The Pristina municipality has contractual relations with companies, not with technical workers separately, he said.
Elshani has also questioned that health and hygiene problems have been presented in only three out of 54 schools where technical workers are engaged. He has warned that over the next week problems will be analysed and identified in these schools.
Moreover, it’s very suspicious for us why in 54 schools we’ve presented to technical workers, we have a problem in three schools, especially in three schools. So it makes us suspicious of some things that we have more clearly identified during the following week, with clearly satiated those problems, whether those managerial ones, whether they’re general, without the responsibility of the current workers or the tendency to spread, but also the tendency to create such an alarming state of hygiene, especially at the Nazim Frasheri School, in Ismail Kemal School and the Mehmet Genavori school, because it’s really understandable why we have problems from 54 schools, especially three schools. So this should be thoroughly analysed by both the Municipal Education Directorate in terms of management, but also with the technical aspect of the workers assigned to these schools, he told EO.
Meanwhile, until the return of technical workers to their workplaces, cleaning and maintenance schools will be covered by the Public National Company and the company Purging.
The Education Directorate will co-ordinate and oversee the implementation of these measures, with the goal of providing adequate conditions for students and teachers.
