Nostalgia restores legendary games, companies bringing new versions of previous hits

The previous Games are returning to the spotlight as large videogame industry companies are increasingly investing in remake classic titles, adapting them to modern graphics and advanced technology.

One of the latest examples is the legendary video game The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time, originally published in 1998 and considered by many worshipers to be one of the best games of all time.

The revised version, which according to the report, is expected to be published for Switch 2, has restored emotions to players who grew up with this game.

For many, restoring popular titles is not only about playing but also about childhood memories and past moments with family and friends.

Experts Tim Wolfe, of the Centre for Advanced Internet Studies in Bocum, Germany, explains that video games have a special ability to awaken homesickness because they enable people to return to virtual environments where they have created important memories.

According to him, this feeling is related not only to personal experiences but also to the people with whom the players have shared those moments.

On the other hand, Pierre Harding-Rols, director of videogame research in Ampere Analysis, estimates that remaking classical games is a convenient strategy for companies, as it enables them to use the known titles and the existing audience, without having to create a completely new game every time.

However, not all players welcome the changes. Worshipers of the original versions often have high expectations and may react negatively if the remakes leave much of the experience they remember.

Stephanie Iyoma, executive director of NNESAGA, stresses that developers should find a balance between preserving the identity of the original game and including new ideas.

One example is the final Fantasy VII), first published in 1997 and restored to a new version in 2020. Such remakes also enable new generations to get acquainted with the games that have marked the history of the industry.

In addition to the improved graph, new versions have another priority: adapting to modern devices in which some old games do not function more easily.

Experts predict that this trend can develop even further, not only by improving graphics but by including changes in content, new elements, and various ways of enjoying classical games.

Thus, the video game industry is proving that homesickness can be far more than a memory of the past: it is becoming an important strategy for its future.
