Israel towards power change, president trusts Netanyah rival formation of new government

Israel’s president has chosen Gadi Eisenkot, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s strongest rival, to try to form a new government, following blocked elections that gave none of them a clear path to power.

President Isaac Herzeg’s office announced that he had announced Eisenkotti, party leader Yashar, on Saturday evening for his goal of believing the task of forming government, reports Thegardian.

The announcement reportedly will take place on Sunday during a ceremony at the presidential residence in Jerusalem.

The results of the US Muslim elections could help unite the Israeli coalition to oust Netanyah from power.

Netanyahu is struggling to remain in office, as his religious-nationalist coalition lost majority in the October 27th elections, though the largest bloc in parliament remained.

If Eisencot manages to form a coalition, he will replace Netanyah in the prime minister’s post and become the new leader of the Israeli government.

Eisenkot’s wide opposition bloc won 48 out of 120 seats in the Israeli parliament in the October elections, while Netanyah’s camp secured 53 seats, causing no one to have a majority.

During consultations with political parties with President Herzeg, 66-year-old Eisencot received the support of both majority Arab lists, which can now play a crucial role in forming the government after achieving unprecedented results in the election.

However, it is still unclear whether the Eisenkot bloc would accept support from Arab lists for forming government.

Eisencott, who served as chief of the Israeli Army’s general staff from 2015 to 2019, aims to unite the Israelites after the divisive period of Netanyah’s rule, during which the country has moved significantly towards the right.

He has vowed to take tough measures against extremist Israeli settlers in the West Coast, who have attacked Palestinians with impunity. Eisencos has named the recent incidents as Jewish terrorism, which, according to him, enabled the government of Netanyah.

However, the former top military official is not a supporter of peace at all costs. He opposes the establishment of a Palestinian state and has pledged to end Hamas’ rule in Gaza, as well as destroy the military arm of this Islamist movement.

During the time he led the Israeli army in the 2006 war against Hezbollah, Eisencot drafted the so – called Doktrine Dahiya.

This doctrine, named after a suburb of Beirut that was severely damaged during that war, implies the threat of Israel to use massive force against civil infrastructure in areas controlled by Lebanese militant Hezbollah movement.
