A heavy firearm attack has rocked the town of Krakov in Poland, where six people have been killed and 16 others injured, as an armed person opened fire on citizens in one of the city’s most frequented areas
The event took place on Saturday afternoon, just before 1500 p.m., at the Grand Market Square (Main Market Square), one of Krakov’s most popular tourist attractions.

According to police, the attacker drove into the square and shot random shots at the people there. The attack lasted about three minutes, while bullets also hit shop windows and a tram.
The victims are four women and two men. Three were Polish citizens, a British citizen, while the identity of the other two has yet to be determined.
Among the 16 injured are five foreign citizens from Austria, Germany, Portugal, Russia and Great Britain. Two policemen are also among the wounded, one of whom is in critical condition.
The suspect is a 25-year-old Polish man, who, according to authorities, allegedly was inspired by the extreme right ideology. He was equipped with military-style weapons and clothing, while a minister named him ultranationalist.
Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has declared there are strong indicators that the victims found at the residence are members of the suspect’s immediate family.
So far, we haven’t had such drastic cases of terrorism in Poland. This vicious attack on people’s lives in Krakov should be called what it is, Tusk has declared.
Following the attack, a large presence of the police armed forces has been established in Krakov, while security measures have also been added to the Warsaw capital and other cities in the country.
Authorities have declared a mourning period in Krakov until 11 November.
