Ten people lost their lives after a car with many travelers left the street and ended up in a lake, in a rural area of Barra Mansa, in the Brazilian state of Rio de Janeiro.

The accident occurred in the early hours of Sunday, after an accident passerby informed authorities of a car immersed in water, it broadcast Telegragraphy.

According to a statement by the state government of Rio de Janeiro, quoted by the AFP, the victims had changed their lives before being taken out of the vehicle.

Authorities confirmed that among the dead there are five adults and five children. Some Brazilian media reported that there was also a baby girl among the victims, while their identities have not yet been made public.

Emergency teams were sent to the scene, where firemen, with the help of two divers, managed to extract bodies from the sunken car.
