European leaders have rejected US President Donald Trump’s proposal for a broad security agreement with Russia, which would involve not only Ukraine but also all of Europe. European officials have stressed that no deal affecting the safety of the continent can be reached without their involvement, reports Euronews.
Trump said on Thursday that Washington could be close to a comprehensive agreement with Moscow, describing it as a major deal that could include all of Europe.

It’ll be too big. It will involve more than Ukraine and I can even say it may involve Europe. It will be a great, beautiful deal and everyone will be satisfied, Trump said, without giving other details.
According to Euronews, his statements have raised concerns among Washington’s European allies that the US administration may be considering a security agreement that takes into account former demands of Russian President Vladimir Putin at the expense of European interests.
European Union foreign policy chief Kaya Kallas has rejected such an agreement, stressing that Europe already has a security architecture.
We already have a European security architecture. The problem remains that Russia continues to violate the treaties on which this architecture is based. NATO posed no threat to Russia in 2021 and poses no threat even now. Putin has no right to veto European security, Kallas said in Warsaw.
She stressed that the European Union should be included in any agreement intended to be implemented.
Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw, as well Sikorski, warned that any agreement on the future of Ukraine and Europe, reached without the participation of European countries, would be politically unacceptable and practically impossible.
A deal for the future of Ukraine and Europe, reached without our knowledge and participation, not only would it be reckless, but it is in fact impossible, Sikorski said.
Meanwhile, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Syzbisa said Russia cannot be considered guarantor of European security.
We need to talk about our defence from Russia, not about talking to the Russians about the spheres of influence in Europe, Syhbika said.
By Euronews, European objections come at the time when the Trump administration is intensifying efforts to end the war in Ukraine, while American representatives are preparing for the resumption of negotiations between Kiev and Moscow in Abu Dhabi next week.
Trump’s special envoy, Jared Kouchner, has indicated that Washington is working for a broader European security framework, aimed at creating conditions for a lasting peace.
He has stressed that the United States aims to consult closely with European partners and, if progress is achieved in negotiations, to move towards a wider multilateral format.
Meanwhile, European Commission main spokeswoman Paula Pinho has declared that much work remains ahead of reaching a peace agreement, stressing that the European Union will decide on its own security issues.
By EuronewsThe positions of the parties remain different. Ukraine seeks reliable guarantees against future Russian aggression, while Moscow has long called for restrictions on NATO presence and influence in Eastern Europe.
On the other hand, European governments oppose any agreement that could weaken NATO, violate existing security agreements or limit the sovereignty of European states.
