Special Antiterrorism Unit Commander ( Serbia’s SIA, Igor Tzmiric, was arrested in Belgrade on Wednesday, under suspicion of mistreatment and torture of students during last year’s protests in Serbia.

According to Serbian media, his arrest was carried out by members of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Interior Control Sector, on the orders of the First Foundation Prosecutor in Belgrade, followed by the Prosecution in Belgrade. Insander.

Serbia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs has confirmed that a total of nine persons, eight police officials, and one person who was a member of the police at the time of the event have been detained.

The suspects have been detained for 48 hours, under suspicion of committing criminal acts of mistreatment and torture.

The case they suspect relates to the night events of August 14th and 15th 2025, in the garage of the Serbian Government building in Belgrade.

According to the Serbian MPB’s announcement, the suspects — in the quality of police officials — allegedly used force and threats against some persons, causing them great pain and severe suffering. Their purpose, according to authorities’ doubts, was to obtain information, intimidation, and unlawful punishment. /Insander.org/
