US President Donald Trump administration officials are backing former Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s candidacy for the post of Secretary General of the United Nations Organisation ( The UN, reports Euronews, citing the American Wall Street Journal.
According to the report, Orban may be a joint candidate of the United States, Russia and China, while sources from all three countries have confirmed the Trump administration’s support for its candidacy.

Orban lost power in the April parliamentary elections in Hungary, when Peter Magyar’s Tisza party defeated him after 16 years of government.
However, former Hungarian prime minister has maintained close ties with US President Donald Trump, Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping.
According to the Wall Street Journal, no final decision has yet been made on this plan.
A US State Department official has said previous talks suggest Russia and China also support that idea.
If the United States, Russia and China want the same thing on the UN Security Council, they usually reach it, they have told the newspaper officials from the US and another country.
Meanwhile, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Aleksandr Alymov has declared that neither the US, Russia nor China can propose Orban, as they are permanent members of the Security Council.
The White House and Beijing have not confirmed the reports.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Orban would only run if his victory was guaranteed, which actually seems a little bit possible.
To be elected, a candidate must secure the support of at least nine of the 15 members of the Security Council, while each of the five permanent members has veto rights.
Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, has declared he does not expect Poland to support Orban’s candidacy.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrij Syhbika has also rejected the idea, criticising Orban’s use of veto for blocking key EU decisions.
The second five-year term of current UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres ends on December 31st.
