Ukraine continues to face problems on the Starlink satellite network, despite US President Donald Trump’s statements, that Elon Musk has restored the link parameters to the previous state.
According to sources within the Ukrainian Defence Ministry, which have talked about the BBC, cases are being recorded when fears are lost in connection with the network during the speed movement of about 161 km an hour, preventing military operations.
Sources said the Ukrainian Army is constantly monitoring the performance of the Starlink and Starschild networks, but so far there is no confirmation that the reported restrictions have been lifted.
Last week, Ukrainian officials announced that the link to satellites in the low orbit of Earth was limited, affecting the function of the drones. According to them, the pilot – free aircraft that moved at over 161 miles per hour were losing contact.
After reporting, Musk stated that Starschild, version of the network used for military needs, is controlled by the American Army, hinting that responsibility for problems could be linked to the Pentagon. Meanwhile, the White House has repeatedly denied that it deliberately imposed restrictions on the ministry in Ukraine.
Trump said on Thursday that Musk had restored the system to previous parameters, but refused to tell whether he had called personally to request lifting restrictions.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky had said earlier that connection speed had not yet been fully restored. He announced that he was expecting an answer from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who had promised him information within about 48 hours.
Ukraine uses both the Starlink for civilian communication, as well as Starshield for some of its military needs. The problems reported on with the satellite link are of particular importance to fatigue operations and combat co-ordination.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Trump had expressed disappointment with Musk over the continuing speed restrictions, after which the system was said to have begun to function closer to normal parameters. However, recent reports from Ukrainian sources show that the functioning of the network remains a concern for Kiev.
