Erjon Vishkulli confessed for the first time when he was wounded in his left eye by a rubber bullet during the protest. He relates that he was about 100 feet [30 m] away from the police when he felt a severe blow, took two steps, and fell to the ground. I went to see my friends and would leave. I had removed my oxygen mask, and at that point I met a fellow journalist. I was about 100 feet away from cops, no reaction, nothing. Only when a blow comes to me, I walked about two meters and fell to the ground, he confessed.
After the injury, Erjon says that he was only partially aware, while a friend helped him by car. The tire bullet is still in its left eye, while the pain and uncertainty of recovery remain the main concern. I still have the tire bullet in my eye. I don’t know now how high the risk is, but it’s not, because I’m in a lot of pain, Vishkull said, reports JOQ Albania.
Erjon’s transportation has been provided to a hospital in Rome, where he is expected to receive more specialized medical treatment. While doctors will assess the state of the eye and the possibilities for intervention, the hope of keeping the eye remains the only certainty at this difficult time.
