Trump says Musk has restored access to Ukraine’s Starlink network

Elon Musk has restored Ukrainian Starlink’s internet access, US President Donald Trump said, as restrictions prevented Kiev’s armed forces.

Trump made comments after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the connection to the military-level Starshield network, which is offered by Musk’s satellite-based Starlink system, had not yet been fully restored, the BBC writes.

Musk previously denied that he stood behind the slowdown, which affects Ukraine’s ability to use fears to attack Russian targets in Ukraine and protect itself from attacks, the signal broadcasts.

Trump refused to withdraw from a report that he had called Musk to ask him to lift restrictions on service, but said: After all, he put them back in. )

Administration Trump previously denied giving instructions to Musk’s company to limit access.

Connection restrictions came as Trump exerted pressure on Zelensky to prevent Ukrainian attacks on Russian oil refinerys, which he has argued have triggered price hikes.

In the face of mid-term elections next month, Trump has resigned from certain sanctions against Russia and has agreed to an agreement to import Russian oil for the American market a move criticised by Ukraine and its European allies.

Ukraine uses both the Starlink and the safest Starschild civil service, depending on the necessary communications.

Networks use 10,000 satellites in earth’s low orbit to ensure connections, especially in remote areas and battlefields.

Modern warfare often relies on high-speed Internet use to effectively operate fears.

Earlier Thursday, Zelensky said the speed of the system used by the Ukrainian Army had not yet been fully restored.

He said at a press conference that speed has not yet returned to 400 [km/h; 250mph], adding: We’re working on this. )

He continued: I’m waiting to hear from US Secretary of State [Marco] Rubio. He promised to return me information in 48 hours or more. )

The Ukrainian president made comments shortly before the Wall Street Journal reported that Trump had called Musk and asked him to lift restrictions on the use of Starlink from Ukraine.

US media reported that Trump told Musk that it was frustrated that the speeds of the Starlink system were still limited to about 160 km/h, according to officials.

The speed limit made Ukraine’s drones and offensive interceptors powerless against Russian attacks.

The magazine reported that the system was functioning more normally on Thursday, signaling immediately after their conversation.

BBC News did not confirm the Wall Street Journal report. He also contacted the White House and SpaceX.

Ukraine reported for the first time a break in sharing American intelligence information on 14 October.

Musk said last week that the US government ultimately controls access to Starschild, the Starlink military version that Ukraine uses for some of its operations. He said the system was designed for the Pentagon, suggesting the US Army could be responsible for restrictions.

The White House has repeatedly said that it has not ordered restrictions on access.
