Pristina’s chairman, Progress Rama, has criticised Kurti Government’s approach to local government, claiming there is a tendency to take over the competencies they owe to municipalities.
Rama has indicated that this concern has been raised at the fourth meeting of the Working Group for Kosovo of the European Committee of Regions ( CoR, held in South Mitrovica.

According to him, weakening municipalities also means weakening democracy, as they are the closest institutions to citizens and are better acquainted with their needs.
Decentralisation, local autonomy and subsydiacity are fundamental principles of Europe that we target. We cannot seek European integration as we leave these principles in practice, Rama wrote.
He has stressed that Kosovo needs powerful municipalities and co-operation institutions, adding that it will continue to protect local autonomy in the quality of Pristina chairman.
