After more than a year of investigation into a series of alleged frauds in the Prizren region, a 36-year-old has been extradited from Germany to Kosovo. He allegedly created fake social media profiles and had used the Wable and Whatsapp apps to introduce himself with other identities, including that of official persons, with the aim of profiting money from citizens, reports the Signal newspaper.
Signal sources suggest this is about Edon Bytycin, 36, who was extradited from Germany on Friday, October 23, 2026, under an international arrest warrant issued by the Constitutional Court in Prizren É branch in Suhareka.
How, though, was the scheme of fraud suspected, and how did investigators reach out to his identification?
According to information provided by the signal, Bytyqi allegedly had contacted citizens through social networks and communication applications during various periods of 20232025, using names and identities of other people.
In some cases, he was allegedly introduced as an official person, while the victims demanded money for financial assistance or for performing various favors, including interventions in the interest of those who had problems with the law.
By this way, the 36-year-old allegedly benefited considerable amounts of money from different citizens.
Among the persons counted as victims in this case are F.S., H.G., U.S. M, L.Q., F.A., S.Q., L. B, N.K. and V.T.
One of the details that has helped to clarify the case relates to the purpose of money sent to the victims.
Investigators have found that the financial resources citizens had transferred through financial institutions, believing they were offering assistance or paying for certain favors, were withdrawn from the bank accounts in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
This runway had prompted investigators to seek international cooperation in identifying people who had attracted money and those who used telephone numbers through whom victims were contacted.
Through the Unit for International Co-operation in Applying the Law ( ILECU, the authorities in Bosnia and Herzegovina, had been asked for assistance in providing such information.
Investigation actions have resulted in the identification of Edon Bytyqi as a suspected person, while international arrest warrants had been issued against him.
The signal teaches that Bytyqi is suspected of a number of other cases of equal or similar nature in the Prizren region.
Its extradition was carried out on October 23rd, about 20:20, at Pristina International Airport HINAAdem Jasharı, where it has been handed over to Kosovo authorities.
After completing the legal procedures, with the State Prosecutor’s decision, the 48-hour ban has been imposed on him.
The case is being investigated for criminal acts such as the false claim as an official person and fraud, while investigations into other cases allegedly linked to 36-year-olds are continuing.
