Manchester United coach Michael Carrick has rejected claims that the English club is impossible to manage, in a period when pressure on it has increased due to poor results.
Unitedi is going through a series of seven games without victory, while the 4-1 defeat of Cosmo in the Champions League on Wednesday has increased criticism of the team and coach.
Pressure on Carrick has also increased following comments by football players Lisadro Martinez and Bruno Fernandes, who have criticised the recruiting of players and club tactics.
If Carrick was downloaded, Manchester Unitedi would experience the coach’s third change in three seasons. Since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement in 2013, some trainers have failed to return the club to previous levels.
Criticism against United United has also increased because of the influence of former footballers commenting on the club in the media, as well as the fan channels followed by a large number of people. Asked if it makes Manchester United an impossible club to manage, Carrick answered briefly: No.
However, the coach has rejected some criticism of the team’s game, particularly claims that footballers are not running enough and are not putting pressure on opponents when they don’t have the ball.
Carrick acknowledged that showing up in the loss to Cosmo was unacceptable, but stressed that the Presig is only a part of football and that it is not always a condition to win the matches.
We need to be careful when we say the team doesn’t run. We’ve won many matches over a certain period. Presing is just a small part of football, Carrick said.
He added that the team must return to things that worked last season and part of this season.
Carrick also confirmed that he has kept in touch with former trainer Ole Gunnar Sosquier and club legend Sir Alex Ferguson, with whom he has close relations.
The coach remains convinced that he can reverse the situation, but admits that the team should react to the next match against Bournemouth.
I have full confidence in the players. We’re gonna be a different team on Sunday. We have to be different, he’s done.
