The accident occurred about 8:54 in the railway line connecting Madrid and Andalusia. A train of the state-owned Renfe company crashed behind a train of private operator Iryo, who was banned on the track. On both trains, more than 500 passengers traveled a total.
As a result of the crash, some cars came off the tracks, and two of them fell onto steep terrain near the railway line. The circulation of high-speed trains between Madrid and Andalusia has been interrupted, while emergency teams are working at the site of the accident.

This is the second major railway accident in Spain this year. In January, 46 people lost their lives in a train accident in Adamuz, in the province of Cordoba.
