Swiss fans split for the return of Jaka and Embolos to representatives

The Swiss Football Federation has decided that Granit Jaka and Breel Embolo will return to Switzerland’s representative for the next gathering in November.

Both football players had been missing recently following scandals linked to breaking rules for COVID-19. According to reports, Captain Jaka had obtained counterfeit vaccine certificates, while assailant Embolo had purchased a forged travel certificate.

The Federation announced that it has carefully examined the circumstances of both cases and has estimated that their return to the national team is reasonable.

We are convinced that a return to the national team in November is responsible and appropriate, said Swiss representative Director Pierre Tami.

And the federation confirmed that Jaka will keep the captain’s tape.

However, the decision has triggered separate reactions among fans. A survey published by the Swiss newspaper Blick, attended by more than 5 thousand and 600 readers, shows that 54 percent of them oppose the return of Jaka and Embolos. According to this group, the federation has had to take a harsher stance on two footballers.

On the other hand, 46 percent of participants support the decision, viewing Jaka as an important player for the Swiss representative.

The debate has also moved to the comment section, where some readers have sharply criticised the federation’s decision.

Antoine Jeremy Etallon has estimated that neither of the two football players should be allowed to play for the representative anymore, while Markus Sbraller named the federation very cowardly to suspend Jaka and Embalon.

Even Jean-Franchois Linder has recalled Jaka’s earlier statements, questioning whether the footballer has actually claimed responsibility for his actions.

Meanwhile, Abigail Muller has raised concerns about the message that this decision could be delivered to young footballers. In the same line, Maurizio Travisan has argued that the two players had to be suspended for several years, as, according to him, do not set a good example for young fans.

Michael Stetler has acknowledged that the decision may have meaning from a sports point of view, but has stressed that it may not be well received by a part of the Swiss public. Even Tom Scherrer has demanded more severe consequences for such behavior.

However, not all oppose the return of two football players. Jurg Egli has backed the federation’s decision, naming Jaka and Embalon as important players for the team despite their mistakes.

In favor of the return, Andy Zimmermann and Albert Meier, who have considered the decision right.

Christoph Jost, meanwhile, has argued that the two footballers have already faced the justice system and that the issue must end with that. Even Daniel Meier has expressed the view that after being punished, Jaka and Embolo should be allowed to continue with the representative.

The federation’s decision, however, continues to divide public opinion in Switzerland, amid those who see the return as a reasonable decision on sports terms and those who require stricter measures for wrongdoing.
