Three criminal cases linking the case of Arlinda Zekaj have been transferred from the Constitutional Prosecutor to Pec to the Constitutional Prosecutor in Pristina, with the decision of Chief State Prosecutor Zeynep Gashi.
According to the State Prosecutor’s Office’s State Office announcement, the decision has been made considering the particular importance of issues, serious consequences and the need for effective, objective and impartial treatment of subjects.
In parallel, the State Chief Prosecutor’s Office has started analyzing all possible institutional actions and inactions regarding cases reported by the deceased. The review includes chronology of actions, decisions taken, risk assessment, and measures taken to protect it.
The report stresses that accountability will be required for any violations of the law, negligence or inaction that could be found during this process.
If violations or responsibilities are identified, measures will be taken in accordance with relevant law and competencies, the announcement says.
The State Prosecutor’s Office has indicated that the assessment will be based on facts, documentation and evidence, without prejudiced on the responsibility of any person.
The chief state prosecutor has reaffirmed that protection of life, law enforcement and institutional accountability are obligations that cannot be neglected. According to him, any suspicion of improper inaction or treatment should be considered until the full clarification of circumstances.
