The German Embassy in Kosovo has expressed grief over the murder of Arlinda Zekiaj in Vitomirica in Pec, calling for strengthening women’s defence mechanisms and preventing gender-based violence.
In a statement, the embassy has expressed condolences to the victim’s family and relatives, stressing that childicide is not an isolated case, but a serious social challenge, Dukajni reports.

Every woman has the right to live free from fear and violence, and this right must be protected through mutual engagement and concrete actions, said the German Embassy’s statement.
The embassy has estimated that Zekiaj’s murder is a painful reminder that the childicide represents the most extreme form of violence against women and requires continued and co-ordinated responses.
Security and protection for women at risk should remain a common priority, supported by effective preventive measures, timely institutional action and immediate support services, it is further said in response.
The embassy has recalled that Kosovo is a party to the Council of Europe’s Istanbul Convention for preventing and fighting violence against women and domestic violence.
Among other things, the Embassy has called on all relief actors to continue efforts to prevent gender-based violence, implement existing defence mechanisms and create a culture where violence is neither tolerated nor ignored.
