El Classico’s loss to Real Madrid seems to have had greater consequences on Barcelona than just losing three points. According to the Spanish newspaper ASThe 2-1 defeat has brought back to the surface some internal problems of the Catalans, while coach Hansie Flick was found in the spotlight.

José Moourinho, coach of Real Madrid, seems to have opened a slight gap in Barcelona’s environment, although the impact of his team’s victory may have been greater than expected. Within days after El Classicos, several developments have emerged at the club that have raised questions about the team’s situation and relations between players and technical staff.

Flick had linked the face to Paris Saint-Germain with El Classic, but Barcelona ended up losing both matches. Moreover, Real Madrid was unable to maintain its tactical balance. After losing 2-1, the German coach returned to the explanation that the players were in poor physical condition and had not had enough time for recovery.

However, according to ASBehind the scenes seems to be more than just a physical matter.

On Wednesday, Barcelona organised a joint lunch to strengthen ties within the team. Such actions often serve to restore unity at a difficult time and to discuss problems that may have surfaced in dressing rooms.

A day later, club leaders surprised by a public statement expressing full confidence in the team and technical staff. While such a formulation may be a common part of the club’s communication, the time when it became public drew attention, especially after it emerged just a few days after the loss in El Classico.

On Friday, Flick left open the possibility for Barcelona to be reinforced during the passing January deadline. The issue had remained in second place since summer, but it has already returned to question at a time when the team is facing criticism.

All these developments occurred within a few days of defeat to Real Madrid, increasing doubts about Barcelona’s domestic state.

Lamine Yamal also did not escape criticism. Some voices rebuked him for his only trip to London on Sunday evening, apart from the official trip organised by the club Monday morning. Meanwhile, Barcelona’s group of fans standing in the tribuna was temporarily closed.

Another old criticism of Flick has returned to question: the team’s difficulties in keeping calm and managing complicated situations during major matches. /Telegraph/
