European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos has declared that Serbia will find it very difficult to progress towards membership in the European Union unless it represents its foreign and security policy with that of the EU, including its attitude towards Russia and war in Ukraine.
Responding to the question of whether Serbia can join the EU without imposing sanctions on Russia, Kos stressed that noncompliance with European positions on strategic issues would pose an obstacle to the country’s progress.

A country that does not approach us on issues of strategic interest, such as foreign and security policy, including the joint fight against Russia, especially in the context of Russian aggression in Ukraine, will not be able to progress. This will be very, very difficult, she said.
However, it indicated that the European Union has not yet started talks with Serbia’s new government.
According to her, the new government should initially be formed in Belgrade, after which it will be assessed if and how co-operation with Serbia can continue in that direction.
Otherwise, the list supported by students has won parliamentary elections in Serbia, defeating former president Aleksandar Vuciq’s political bloc.
According to preliminary results, the student list has secured 52.71 per cent of the vote, while the Vuciqi coalition’s 39.17 per cent. /Telegraphy/
