Renowned lawyer Besnik R. Berisha has announced that he has taken over representation of the legal interests of Arlinda Zekiaj’s family, the woman who was fatally murdered in Paya’s Vitomirica, warning of commitment to the complete dawning of random circumstances and verification of any institutional action or inaction.

Through a public reaction, on the day Arlinda Zekaj was forwarded to the last residence, Berisha has indicated that the representation was accepted at the request and authorisation of the victim’s family, the Signal newspaper reports.

He has shown that during the day he has accepted numerous requests from journalists for procurement and participation in television shows, but has decided not to talk publicly about family pain at times when she was giving her last farewell to Arlinda.

Today, as a child was giving his mother last goodbye, I had no heart to talk about their pain in television studios! Berisha wrote.

The lawyer has stressed that no judicial decision or sentence can bring Arlinda back to life, nor can he restore the child to embrace the mother.

However, Berisha has stressed that justice can give the family the truth and answers everything that matters in the dawn of tragedy.

Berisha warns verification of institutional actions, inactions

In his response, the lawyer has made it clear that legal commitment will focus on seeking responsibility where it can be proved, without prejudiced by institutions or officials involved.

Berisha has stressed that he will not allow his commitment in this case to turn into political clashes.

According to him, the Arlinda family does not need its pain used for attacks on political opponents or for the protection of institutions before the facts are clarified.

A mother has lost her life. A child is left without his mother. This tragedy should unite us in the demand for justice, not divide us into attempts for political gain, he wrote.

The lawyer has warned co-operation with competent institutions, demanding that the investigation be complete, professional, impartial and based on evidence.

We owe Arlinda’s family this good-bye not to end efforts for truth

At the end of the response, Berisha has voiced his determination to continue legal engagement even after public attention to the tragedy fades.

He has stressed that he cannot promise his family a certain outcome of procedures but that he will do everything in his law, experience, and professional conscience to seek answers.

It would be a serious injustice for them to remain with the feeling that the truth was not demanded until the end, that their questions remained unanswered, and that someone could have done more but did not, he wrote.

Arlinda Zekiaj was killed on Sunday in Vitomirica, Peja, while suspect in the murder is her brother-in-law, Albert Sylaj. The case has prompted numerous public reactions and demands for clarification of the circumstances preceding the assassination, including institutional treatment of the victim’s previous indictments.
