The German Embassy in Kosovo has condemned the murder of Arlinda Zekiaj in Vitomirica in Pec, calling for strengthening preventive measures, protecting women at risk and implementing existing mechanisms against gender-based violence.

Every woman has the right to live free from fear and violence, and this right should be guaranteed through mutual devotion and concrete actions, the German Embassy’s statement said.

We are deeply saddened by the tragic murder of Arlinda Zekiaj in Vitomirica of Peja and express our sincere condolences to the family and her most loved ones, the statement further states.

According to the German Embassy, this painful tragedy serves as a strong reminder that childicide is not an isolated incident, but remains a serious social challenge.

This painful tragedy serves as a strong reminder that childicide is not an isolated incident, but remains a serious social challenge, as the most extreme form of violence against women, requiring a continuous and co-ordinated response, the statement said.

The German Embassy has stressed that ensuring the safety and protection of women at risk should remain a common priority, supported by effective preventive measures, timely institutional action and immediate support services.

The statement recalls that Kosovo is part of the Council of Europe’s Istanbul Convention for the prevention and fighting of violence against women and domestic violence.

We urge all relevant parties to continue strengthening efforts to prevent gender-based violence, implement existing defence mechanisms, and promote a culture in which violence is neither tolerated nor ignored, the German Embassy’s statement concludes.
