The immigration authorities in Argentina announced that Bolsonaro and his family had entered the country via land in the northern province of Mission, near Iguazu Falls, using valuable travel documents.
The US had offered Bolsonaro visas and his family, even before the details of his plans were made clear.
An American official confirmed that they would be allowed entry into the country.
Initially, it was not clear where, when, or how Bolsonaro intended to continue his journey from Ecuador.
Earlier, Bolsonaro had failed to enforce an order by the Supreme Court of Brazil to deliver his passports within 24 hours.
Supreme Court Judge Alexander de Morra had ordered the invalid announcement of Bolsonaro passports and had prevented him from leaving the country.
This order was issued under an investigation into Bolsonaro and lawyer Willer Tomaz, over allegations of money laundering involving online businesses and sports bets.
