EU expects constructive engagement by Serbia’s election winner in dialogue with Kosovo

The European Union has declared that the results of parliamentary elections in Serbia do not change the basis of dialogue between Kosovo and Serbia, mediated by the EU, as well as the obligations the parties have taken over under this process.

In an answer to Kalxo.com, a European Union spokesman has stressed that dialogue does not depend on individual political leaders and that all commitments thus far remain in force.

The results of parliamentary elections in Serbia do not change the foundations of the EU-launched dialogue or obligations undertaken by parties in the EU’s answer to Calxo. com

The EU has recalled that these obligations include those stemming from the Road to the Normalisation of Relations in 2023, as well as its Implementation Annex, known as the Ohrid Agreement.

The dialogue, relieved by the EU, does not depend on individual political leaders. All existing pledges remain valid, including those stemming from the 2023 Agreement on the Road to Normalisation and its Implementation Annex (The Ohrid Agreement) are further said in response.

As for the possibility of changing Serbia’s negotiating stance after the elections, the EU spokesman has praised that it is still early to draw conclusions.

At this stage, it would be premature to speculate about possible changes to Serbia’s negotiating position or their implications in dialogue- it is said in response.

The EU expects Serbia to continue constructive engagement in dialogue, to honour existing pledges and contribute to progress towards normalising relations.

We expect Serbia to continue to engage constructively, to honour its existing pledges and contribute to progress towards normalising relations. The EU is ready to engage with the new leadership to ensure continuity and preserve the dynamics of the process. The spokesman said.

The Student List’s victory in Serbia’s parliamentary elections has opened discussions on the future of Kosovo-Serbia dialogue and the possible impact on the political representation of Serbs in Kosovo.
