Trump says U.S. will cut off $4 billion financing for Israel

US President Donald Trump said on Tuesday he has reached an agreement with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, under which Washington will cut off funding $4 billion to Israel after the end of this year.

Speaking on the show Fox and Friends of the Fox News network, Trump said that Israel no longer needs this funding, and that several left-wing Democrats and politicians are using US financial support for Israel as an argument to criticise the republics, write foreign media, sends out Telegrafi.

Now, as for Israel’s payments, Biby Netanyah and I agreed that we give Israel 4 billion dollars a year and we agreed months ago that we’re going to stop this, Trump said on the show Fox and Friends of Fox News.

We have already agreed that, by the end of this year, we will no longer pay Israel payment. Of course, we will help Israel if they need it, he added.

According to foreign media, there was no immediate reaction from Netanyah’s office regarding Trump’s statements, nor was it immediately clear what specific funding Trump was referring to.

A memorandum of understanding, which envisions $3.8 billion of US military assistance to Israel, is expected to expire in 2028; meanwhile, discussions on how Washington’s assistance to Israel evolve after that date.

They can buy whatever they want. They can buy whatever they want. The same applies to Europe. We produce the best weapons in the world, Trump added on Tuesday.

In an interview for CBS in May, Netanyah expressed hope that Israel would be dependent on American military support within a decade.

In a letter sent to an American Congressman in June, he wrote that the time had come for Israel to pass from the status of a beneficiary of aid to that of a partner.

US public support for Israel has declined since the beginning of the Gaza war in 2023, especially among the Democrats.

A Quinnipiac University survey in June showed that 48% of voters and 66% of Democrats believe that the United States supports Israel more than it should have; this figure has grown from 16% and 20%, which was when this question was raised for the first time in 2017.

Israel’s support among the Democrats has dropped significantly; candidates who are critical of Israel are winning the early democratic elections, even moderate lawmakers are increasingly willing to question US several-decade support for Israel.

The left hand uses the $4 billion fee everyone knows about is not a secret as an indication of injustice, and we cannot let that happen, Trump said.

We gave them 4 billion in fact we still give them, but this will stop at the end of the year, he said. Why? Because they don’t need to. /Telegraph/
