During his interview with journalist Maria Tadeo at Euronews Enlargement Summi in Brussels, Prime Minister Edi Rama commented on the Western Balkans’ journey towards the European Union and Serbia’s regional role.
He stressed that, although Serbia’s EU integration is important for the stability of the region, official Belgrade must show concrete results, meet the European Union’s non-negotiable conditions, as well as recognise Kosovo.
What I know is that the winner in Belgrade does not show the opening for me and the Albanians, which is recognition of the Kosovo issue. This means that music in Belgrade will not change.
We are part of a region that is not yet fully a member of the EU and we are the ones who listen to lectures, we do not lecture, but Serbia is an important part of the mosaic of the Western Balkans.
I was a lawyer who should not let Serbia go in the wrong direction and abandon the European project. On the other hand, we know how things work.
When it comes to certain aspects, Serbia has testified to a reluctance towards Kosovo, but also about the stance it takes against Russia and sanctions.
We need Serbia to be with us, to be a part of the neighbourhood and to be a full part of the EU, but it must show results and deserve that belonging, realizing what is non-negotiable with the EU, Rama said.
